Mockingjay: Book 3

Updated: Apr 29

Katniss and Peeta get rescued from the games. When she talks to Haymitch, she finds out that she is going to have to be a figurehead for someone else now so that her loved ones will be safe. Her home, District 12, has been bombed. They are taking her to District 13, somewhere that was supposedly bombed and lost a long time ago. President Coin is the ruler of this District and is the one who wants Katniss to continue to be the figurehead of the rebellion, but lead them as she sees fit.

This book has a completely different tone than the other two books. I do enjoy it as its own story and the points that it makes on mental health, but it feels weird and out of place standing next to two books that dive head first into the Games. It is a good story and interesting, but I find myself not as excited to read it as one of the first two books. Not my favorite series overall, but definitely an interesting concept and good story.

If you liked this book, the last book in the series is The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins, a prequel to the rest of the series. Other books like this one are: the Divergent series by Veronica Roth, the Shadow and Bone series by Leigh Bardugo, and the Legend series by Marie Lu.
