The Hunger Games: Book 1

Updated: Apr 29

Picture a society where all your whole life goals are determined by the district you are born in and the best you can hope for is that your family will survive the reaping. Picture having to risk your life and your family’s lives so that you might have enough to eat that day. Katniss lives this life in District 12. Hers is the poorest district and the least likely to win the Hunger Games so when her youngest sister gets chosen during the reaping to participate, Katniss thinks fast and volunteers to take her sister’s place. Her sister is the only reason she is still here and the one thing she is willing to protect at all costs. Will she be able to survive in the Games long enough to be able to get back to her?

The Hunger Games is a popular book for a reason. It is short and has such an interesting concept that catches your attention. I needed to see what all the hype was about and I can say that this book fulfilled those expectations. It was not awe inspiring or anything, but it was definitely a good read. I think that, of the books in this series, this one is the best by far. Definitely something that is worth reading.

If you like this book, the next book in the series is Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. Other books like this one are: the Divergent series by Veronica Roth, the Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo, and the Legend series by Marie Lu.

I fucking LOVED this book. And I threw Catching Fire across the room at the end, then I HATED Mockingjay until the last 3 pages. It was a wild ride with this series, but so worth it.
