I have not heard anyone talking about this book anywhere, but it is so interesting! The main characters are a 15 year old girl named Wisty and her 18 year old brother named Whit. We enter a world where a new government just took over and there are soldiers storming down our street. They take up surrounding positions around the house and break down the door to arrest the whole family. They are tried for witchcraft despite repeatedly telling them that they are not witches and wizards. Their parents are allowed to give them one gift per kid and give them a book and a drumstick. Wisty ends up lighting on fire after holding the drumstick for some reason. Maybe their parents did not tell them everything there is to know about their past.
Though I have not read this series in quite a long time, I absolutely love it. The story is really entertaining and I love that instead of having the two main characters be love interests, they went for a brother and sister duo. The story is well crafted and fast paced. I really enjoyed it from beginning to end.
