Nova is an undercover agent for a villain group called the Anarchists. She is gathering intelligence on the Renegades, a superpowered organization that is the ruling body after the Age of Anarchy. She was accepted into Adrian’s group with Danna, Oscar, and Ruby. Nova has tranquilization and insomnia, but the Renegades only know that she has insomnia. Her villain name is Nightmare and Renegade name is Insomnia. Adrian’s is the ability to bring to life whatever he draws and he is known as Sketch. Danna can turn into a swarm of butterflies and is known as Monarch. Oscar controls smoke and vapor and is known as Smokescreen. Ruby’s blood turns into rubies and she is known as the Red Assassin. Will Nova be able to find a way to defeat the Renegades?
Renegades was great, but this book just takes it up a notch in every way. Throughout the whole book the stakes are being raised. This already dangerous mission becomes much more terrifying. Secrets are getting harder to keep. Lies are being unearthed. Nova’s cover is slipping, but she is getting attached and it is hard to keep her feelings out of this. Will she be able to go through with everything?
If you like this book, the last in the series is Supernova by Marissa Meyers. Other books that are similar: A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas because this main character is also infiltrating into their enemies side to gather information, Red Rising by Pierce Brown because the main character is lying about who they really are, and The Rose Society by Marie Lu because both the main characters want revenge.
