Golden Son: Book 2

Updated: Apr 29

Darrow has gone through a lot in the two years since we last saw him. He has finally graduated from the Institute, a great achievement. He has also gotten himself a position for House Augustus, the leading family of Mars. In addition, Darrow now trains in the Academy, a prestigious school that focuses on space based warfare and planetary tactics. Darrow has command of his own fleet and his lieutenants are Roque and Tactus from the Institute.

I had forgotten how good this book was. The plot, story arcs, and world building are all phenomenal. There are so many twists, but they are all a surprise. The world feels real. It is so harsh and terrifying and massive, but easy to comprehend. I was brought to my knees by this book. It is heart wrenching. Darrow is so compassionate to those around him and he only wants to make the world better. He cares about who gets hurt and, despite his society trying to make killing second nature, he keeps trying to see the best in everyone. Darrow is used to being thought of as less than and underestimated by everyone else. This is a book that is up there with some of my most favorite reads. Pierce Brown knows how to make you invested and keep you sucked into his story. You just want to never stop reading.

If you enjoyed this book, the next book in the series is Morning Star by Pierce Brown. Other books like this one are: the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas because they both feel like they can never rely on others, the Seven Devils series by Laura Lam and Elizabeth May because both characters go through many trials, and Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard because both of the main characters are fighting back against their societies.
