The Darkest Minds: Book 1

Updated: Aug 22

Imagine a world where kids all around you are dying left and right. No one knows why, but the disease does not affect adults. It's called IAAN and though many died, the ones who survived were scarier. They were categorised by Red (fire), Orange (mind control), Yellow (electricity), Green (smart), and Blue (telekinesis).

One night, Ruby accidentally erased herself from her parents minds and got herself sent to a “rehabilitation camp” where they contain the kids with powers. She quickly learned that Oranges and Reds were treated worst so when she was told she was Orange, she made the doctor forget and think that she was a Green. Will she be able to stay under the radar to keep herself alive or will they find out what she did six years ago?

I had totally forgotten about this series for the longest time. I had read it in middle school the first time around and had forgotten the ending of this book. It hit me really hard when rereading it. From start to finish, I was fully immersed and it was impossible for me to put it down. There is intrigue and mystery. I adore the characters and could not hold back from jumping right into the next in the series.

If you enjoyed this book, the next book in the series is Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken. Other books like this one: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi because both main characters fear others and are feared themselves, The Young Elites by Marie Lu because the government is hunting down and killing people because of the powers they have, and Witch & Wizard by James Patterson because of the total control the government suddenly has over everyone and the magic.
