Insurgent: Book 2

Writer's picture: The Sage OracleThe Sage Oracle

We left Tris and Four off when they were escaping Dauntless on the train and heading towards Amity. Tris had to kill Will to get away. Tris’ parents had sacrificed themselves to save her life. They managed to take the simulation data from Jeanine Matthews. Four admitted that he likes Tris. Now they are a part of no faction and have very few familial connections. How many of their friends survived? How many became killers? What will their next steps be?

Killing your friend is not something that one can easily move past and nor is your parents sacrificing themselves for you in front of eyes while you can do nothing to stop them. This book thoroughly explores Tris’ grieving and mourning process. She and Four struggle with their relationship as she grieves and she becomes very isolated. Guns terrify her, but she becomes more volatile and impulsive making her take unnecessary risks. This book does not shield its readers from the devastation that grieving can cause.

If you like this book, the next book in the series is Allegiant by Veronica Roth. Other books like this one: Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins because both main characters have to deal with death of those close to them, In the Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken because there is similar devastation and uncertainty that the characters are facing, and The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King by Carissa Broadbent because both main characters are struggling with their identity and how they should continue in their worlds.
